How it works
- 1Add the SignaCast app from the App Store, or push it to the Apple TV through your MDM
- 2A pairing code appears on the TV
- 3Enter the code in Manager › Screens › Pair, and assign content
About Apple TV for SignaCast
The SignaCast player for Apple TV plays your playlists, schedules, layouts and designs on an Apple TV 4K. Pairing takes one code typed into the Manager; from then on the screen updates itself.
HLS is Apple's own streaming format, so live streams play through the built-in video player, full screen or in a layout region. Designs are drawn on the device, and the full time-zone database is on board, so schedules follow local time anywhere.
An Apple TV boots to its home screen and waits for a remote. For an unattended screen, enroll the Apple TV in Apple Business Manager, supervise it through your MDM and put it in Single App Mode: the player then starts on power-on, cannot be exited from the remote, and can be restarted from the MDM. Without MDM, someone opens the app after each power cycle.
tvOS outputs landscape only, so a portrait screen needs the panel mounted rotated and content authored to match. The Apple TV cannot switch the display on or off on a schedule. Local storage on tvOS is small and can be cleared by the system, so plan on a steady network connection rather than offline play.
